Position summary

We are seeking an experienced and versatile Custom Metal Fabricator for a flexible, shop-based independent contractor opportunity in Hudson Oaks, TX. This role is ideal for a skilled craftsman looking to earn extra money and pick up additional work on a schedule that fits around their primary commitments. You will work out of our facility to handle a wide variety of fabrication requests, ranging from custom exhaust builds and high-precision wheel repair welding to unique, bespoke custom metal projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate Space & Tool Assets: Coordinate shop space and specific tool assets, using available shop equipment or coordinating with Treads to procure or arrange them, to support smooth projects and high-quality finished work.
  • Coordinate Prep & Access: Coordinate vehicle measurements, mockups, teardowns, and safety/access work with Treads personnel for timely fabrication with structural integrity and cosmetic quality.
  • Diverse Automotive Fabrication: Perform MIG and TIG welding across steel, aluminum, and stainless steel to build or modify custom exhaust systems, mend damaged wheels, and complete custom metal projects.
  • Precision Layout & Cutting: Measure, cut, bend, and notch tubing or sheet metal using shop equipment with accuracy for clean fitment and aesthetics.
  • Wheel Repair Welding: Safely weld aluminum wheel lips or cracks, ensuring structural safety and preparing the wheel for true balance and finishing.
  • Self-Management: Manage your contracted time block to finish diverse fabrication projects on schedule with minimal oversight.

Requirements & qualifications

  • Proven Fabrication Experience: 2+ years of professional custom metal fabrication and welding experience. Custom exhaust systems and aluminum wheel repair experience are a major plus.
  • Welding Proficiency: Highly proficient in TIG and MIG welding across multiple metals, particularly stainless steel for exhaust work and aluminum for wheel repairs.
  • Tool Ownership: Own primary fabrication safety gear and hand tools, including a welding hood, gloves, and specialty measuring tools. Heavy shop equipment and bay space usage will be coordinated.
  • Reliability & Precision: Deliver structurally sound, aesthetically clean work during agreed-upon off-hours with strong self-discipline and safety around vehicle components and electronics.

Position summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wrap and Tint Technician proficient in both vehicle wrapping and window tinting for a flexible, shop-based independent contractor opportunity in Hudson Oaks, TX. This role is ideal for a talented installer looking to earn extra money and pick up additional work on a schedule that fits around their primary commitments. You will work out of our facility to deliver flawless window tinting, vinyl color changes, chrome deletes, and traditional paint protection film (PPF). Additionally, as our shop continues to innovate, we are looking for a technician interested in expanding their skillset to assist with our planned transition into advanced sprayable paint protection systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate Prep & Access: Coordinate vehicle prep work, glass cleaning, surface decontamination, and necessary disassembly/access work with Treads personnel for timely installation and the highest standard of quality.
  • Perform Wrap & Tint Installations: Apply ceramic and standard automotive window tint, vinyl color-change wraps, and traditional PPF to a wide variety of makes and models.
  • Film Precision & Quality: Measure, cut, and tuck films with seamless edges and clean glass micro-edges, free of bubbles, dust, or contamination.
  • Future Technology Adaptation: Assist with and adapt to the shop’s future adoption of spray-applied, peelable paint protection systems.
  • Self-Management: Manage your contracted time block to finish projects on schedule with minimal oversight.

Requirements & qualifications

  • Dual-Skill Experience: 2+ years of professional automotive experience handling both vinyl wrapping/PPF and window tinting.
  • Tool Ownership: Own reliable professional installation tools, including squeegees, heat guns, specialized tucking tools, and blades.
  • Skills Plus: Multi-step headlight restoration experience (sanding, polishing, and UV sealing/clearing) is a strong plus. HVLP spray equipment, paint correction, or liquid wraps experience is a plus; willingness to learn next-generation spray systems is key.
  • Reliability & Precision: Strong self-discipline to deliver high-quality work during agreed-upon off-hours, with safety around vehicle glass and factory paint.
